I'm working on getting some ducks in a row today... sending e-mails, paying bills, filling out paperwork for my new 9 to 5 gig, and working on a fun styling project for one of my favorite mamas.
Speaking of 9 to 5 (QUEEN OF THE SEGUE, THAT'S ME!), I'm doing all this while listening to Dolly Parton's OG version of "I Will Always Love You". I mean... good God, Lemon. Not only is Dolly one of my all-time style icons but too often I forget how much of a country music trailblazer she was. Though I love Whitney's version too, this recording, from an episode of The Porter Wagoner Show, kind of knocks that one out of the park. The slow guitar chords and Dolly's delicate, warbly voice highlight the simple sadness of the lyrics, and the whole performance gives me shades of Adele's "Someone Like You". I just love, love, love this!
And if you're in the mood for something livelier to spice up your Thursday morning, please enjoy Drunk History's retelling of the relationship between Dolly and Porter Wagoner. (NSFW, y'all.)
