OMG it's been a month since I posted last... y'all. I'm the worst.
In an effort to win back your love and admiration, I think we should talk about a universal crowd-pleaser, a fan favorite, a shoe-in, a real ace in the hole: Jennifer Lawrence. More specifically, Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire came out this past Friday, and while I haven't seen it yet (to be remedied this week, maybe the night of Black Friday??), I just know it's going to be beyond dope. Catching Fire was actually my favorite book of the trilogy, and I'm definitely in a mood to be inspired by Katniss' tireless devotion to the people she loves, her refusal to choose comfort and safety over fighting forwhat's right, and of course, her general kick-ass-ness. I'm at a place in my life where I'm making a concious effort to define who I care about and what I stand for, and how far I'm willing to go for my values and goals, and I've found myself actively seeking out powerful sources of inspiration, particularly in strong female role models. (Betcha didn't think a silly post about a YA fiction series was going to get this real, huh??)
So to prepare for and celebrate this latest installment of everyone's favorite story about impoverished children pitted against each other in an arena death match, here's my round-up of everything you need to unleash your inner Girl on Fire:
1) Shots. Duh.
2) I've been dying to dip my toes (pun intended) into the combat/moto-boot trend, but I don't think I'm quite ready to go full-on Daria just yet. The compromise? These gorgeous Report booties... the tough-girl stud is just the right statement embellishment, but they're still streamlined and classic enough to last through a few seasons. Don't you think Katnip (ugh I hate myself for typing that... #teamPeta) would look so fly touring the Districts in these??
3) I'm working with a coach at my new gym on a "slimdown" program to train myself to overcome bad-eating pitfalls and adopt healthier habits; my goal for the first week was to eat a healthy breakfast every day. So far I've stayed on track, and this silly article gave me some great ideas for the coming weeks!
4) If I was feeling more "Effie", I might be inclined to fulfill a lifelong fantasy of mine: pink hair. Blame it on my recent obsession with the Katy Perry documentary (more on that later), but I've just been itching to try this out even more lately. I could never do full-on royal blue like Katy P. or something neon like Nicki Minaj, but I absolutely die for the dusty, almost greyed-out pastel hues I've seen all over Pinterest... think Rachel McAdams when she had that pink swipe at the front of her hair. Le swoon.
5) Last but not least, probably the most productive way I could channel Ms. Everdeen-- heading to the gym and sweating it out to the sounds of one of my favorite pump-up tunes:
